Zone 03 Public Library

This project proposes a redesign of the Clinton Hill Public Library in Brooklyn, addressing programmatic issues and enhancing user experience.

Zone 03 Public Library shifts all service obligations (bathrooms, stairs, storage, mechanical equipment) against the party wall, resulting in uninterrupted program zones that enhance user experience. Rather than having program adjacent to each other that results in conflicting atmospheres, this project resolves this existing issue by isolating each program as a specific "Zone" that extrudes at different heights from the Service corridor.

Narrative

Identifying the problem

Visited the site and noted an issue with user experience. Tight circulation (navigation) and overlapping atmospheres.

How is the problem resolved?

This project separates program and service, resulting in uninterrupted and individual zones to meet user needs.

What makes this project special?

The continuous red stair ascends users through open spaces intentionally designed for the desired atmosphere.

The cantilevered nature of the project allows for public interaction on terraces and efficient pedestrian circulation on the ground plane.

Zone 03 Public Library resolves an existing programmatic issue at Clinton Hill Public Library and enhances user experience through uninterrupted program zones that connect visitors to the outdoors.
